Summary

A gripping new stand-alone novel from USA TODAY bestselling romantic suspense author Colleen Coble。

A wealthy hotel heiress。

Torie Bergstrom hasn’t been back to Georgia since she was ten, but she’s happy to arrange a job for her best friend at one of the family properties on Jekyll Island。

A suspicious death。

When Torie learns that her best friend has drowned, she knows this is more than a tragic accident: Lisbeth was terrified of water and wouldn’t have gone swimming by choice。

A fight for the truth。

Torie goes to the hotel under an alias, trying to find answers。 When she meets Joe Abbott and his daughter rescuing baby turtles, she finds a tentative ally。

But the more they dig, the more ties they find to Torie’s mother’s death twenty years before。 Someone will risk anything—even more murder—to hide the truth。

I’m not sure where I’ve been, but this is an author that I haven’t read before。 And in no time, Coble won my heart。 I vowed to watch for all of her upcoming books。Not only did this great story fly off the starting blocks, but it also didn’t slow down。 I continued to hold my attention。 It was just the right combination of romance and suspense but perfect in one other area too。This is listed as Christian fiction which, for me, can mean more than clean writing。 Occasionally, religious references ca I’m not sure where I’ve been, but this is an author that I haven’t read before。 And in no time, Coble won my heart。 I vowed to watch for all of her upcoming books。Not only did this great story fly off the starting blocks, but it also didn’t slow down。 I continued to hold my attention。 It was just the right combination of romance and suspense but perfect in one other area too。This is listed as Christian fiction which, for me, can mean more than clean writing。 Occasionally, religious references can feel overwhelming and invasive to the story。 Not so with A Stranger’s Game。 All three things, suspense, romance, and Christian fiction fit together like a finely sculpted puzzle。ConcernsNothingFinal ThoughtsIf you like a non-cursing, clean romance, with only a believable amount of religious reference, gift yourself this book。 Oh, and did I mention it’s also a fun story? If I recall correctly, a while back my good friend may have asked me if I’d read this author。 I always feel a bit overwhelmed by my to-be-read pile of books…so I think her suggestion that I read Colleen Coble's books went in one ear and out the other。Oh silly me。 That was my loss。 Don’t find yourself, like me, saying, Oh silly me。 If you don’t purchase this enjoyable, page-turner, at least consider requesting it from your library。My thanks to Partners in Crime Tours and the publisher for a copy to review。 I was not required to post a positive review。 。。。more

I have been a big Colleen Coble fan for many years。 I have read most, if not all, of her contemporary mystery and romantic suspense stories; my favorites being her Rock Harbor, Pelican Harbor, Hope Beach, and Aloha Reef series。 A Stranger's Game is, for the most part, a riveting tale with multiple mysteries converging during Victoria Bergstrom's investigation of her best friend's death。 I say for the most part because the final two chapters fall a little flat, as if the author felt rushed to win I have been a big Colleen Coble fan for many years。 I have read most, if not all, of her contemporary mystery and romantic suspense stories; my favorites being her Rock Harbor, Pelican Harbor, Hope Beach, and Aloha Reef series。 A Stranger's Game is, for the most part, a riveting tale with multiple mysteries converging during Victoria Bergstrom's investigation of her best friend's death。 I say for the most part because the final two chapters fall a little flat, as if the author felt rushed to wind up the story。 I read an advanced galley copy, so maybe the last two chapters will be a bit more fleshed out in the final release。 I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of A Stranger's Game from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley without obligation。 All opinions expressed here are my own。 。。。more

Eighteen years after her Mothers death Victoria “Tori” finds herself back at Jekyl Island。 Her friend has just drowned and it has been labeled accidental。 Tori is certain it wasn’t accidental, her friend was deathly afraid of water and wouldn’t have gone into the ocean。 There is suspense and romance in this book with a bit of faith in the mix。 It got my interest from the beginning。 I suspected one of the twists。 Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy。

Enjoyed the story。 I was drawn to the mystery of Lisbeth's death and the reason Torie returned to Jekyll Island。 I kept wondering if it was related to the death of Torie's mom。 The police did a horrible job investigating Lisbeth's death。 Throughout the book there were constant attacks to Joe in the water and Torie kept getting taunted with break-ins, music playing, board games and items being moved。 Plus there was another death at the hotel。 What was going on at this resort? Was everything connected? With all that was happening to Joe and Torie I couldn't wait to find out the truth behind everything。 I'm still confused by the ending。 I thought it could be explained a little more。 Why were those two people involved? Did something happen to them to cause all that hostility? The measures that they took were so extreme。 Everything seemed so far-fetched and unbelievable。 I still have so many questions about the death of Torie's mom。 Was it suicide or did someone push her? What was with Torie's aunt? How did she not recognize her? Torie wore her hair just like her mother。 Not many people wear a crown of braids。 Genevieve was far from a loving aunt。 I enjoyed everything leading up to the ending。 The story took a turn I wasn't expecting。 Maybe if the reasons behind people's motives were explained a bit more I would have liked it a bit more and given the book 4 stars。Definitely recommend the book。 I enjoyed the characters, story and writing style。 Look forward to reading more books by the author。I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson--FICTION through NetGalley。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。 。。。more

Jekyll Island, GA is a beautiful setting - one that I felt very comfortable slipping into as we get into a well-executed mystery that kept me reading until I finished in one sitting。 Torie is a strong protagonist with whom we quickly can identify with as she is set on proving that her friend's death was not an "accident"。 Coble does a fantastic job of bringing the characters and scenes to life with vivid descriptions that put us right there with them。 I love the Christian aspect being subtle, ye Jekyll Island, GA is a beautiful setting - one that I felt very comfortable slipping into as we get into a well-executed mystery that kept me reading until I finished in one sitting。 Torie is a strong protagonist with whom we quickly can identify with as she is set on proving that her friend's death was not an "accident"。 Coble does a fantastic job of bringing the characters and scenes to life with vivid descriptions that put us right there with them。 I love the Christian aspect being subtle, yet extremely effective in moving the story forward and developing connections。 I did feel that Torie's undercover name was a bit obvious and curious as to how no one picked up on it。 But at the same time, things work out best when they are the most obvious as they can easily be overlooked。 I was a little disappointed that one twist was left with someone simply being allowed to leave, rather than owning up to the part they played in a tragedy。I received a complimentary copy for reviewing purposes with PICT。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more
